Jimmy Garvin the Freebird

Jim Garvin was not an original Freebird, but he had already made a name for himself in the business. In the early 70’s Jimmy played the role of a young manager. In Tulsa he was manager to his storyline brother Terry Garvin. (Ronnie Garvin was not in Tulsa at the time.)

The very first wrestling event I attended was in Monroe Louisiana. The main event was two matches. Ivan Putski wrestled each Garvin separately while the other brother was locked in a cage. Ivan won both matches.

The next year Duke Myers became Terry’s tag-team partner.  Myers and Terry  won the NWA Tri-State’s version of the United States tag-team championship with Jimmy as their manager. Also the Garvins hated Dr.X. This was the first time I saw bad guys as enemies.

I say all this to point out that Jimmy Garvin was known before The Freebirds came to be.
