On the August 10th episode of NWA Powerrr, Mims defeated former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jax Dane in the last round of The Championship Series. Many said this was no surprise because it went along with the storyline. As for me I thought the team of Jax Dane (Pope/Velvet) was going to have a clean sweep in this tournament. The victory is truly a feather in the cap for MIms.
This is the first year that Mims has competed, as a single wrestler, with the NWA. In 2020 his only contest was a tag-team match. He and his partner, Jocephus, lost to James Storm and Eli Drake. Mims had two tag-team bouts in 2019 that were sanctioned by the NWA. Both matches were losses and with different partners. However in 2021 things have picked up for Matthew Mims.
On March 30th, Mims lost his first singles match, on NWA Powerrr, against Tyrus. The next week he won a tag-team match the with his partner Slice Boogie against The War Kings (Jax Dane and Crimson.) Then the following week he had his first singles victory against Jeremiah Plunkett.
After these two victories Mims lost to Matt Cross, Nick Aldis, The Mystery Man and JTG. In between his matches with Mystery Man and JTG, he was in a six man tag team bout which ended in a which ended in a no contest. Mims teamed with Aron Stevens and Captain YUMA against Luke Hawkz, PJ Hawx, and Kratos.
Despite Mims' victory over Jax Dane, the team of Pope/Velvet won the other matches over Mim's team. Mims was a team member of Idol/Kamille. This overall victory, in The Champion Series, gives Jax Dane and his team mates title opportunities. However Mim's career could be picking up.
During the press conference at The Chase, for the upcoming 73rd Anniversary show, Matthew Mims was seated with other prominent members of the NWA. It appears he has a solid future with the company.
