Malvern's Chinese Gas Station

The Governor declared April poetry month in Arkansas. In honor of poetry month, I decided to write a villanelle about a gas station that once stood in Malvern Arkansas. This station had a circular structure with a high pitch roof. My dad said he remembers that in the 50's it had colorful Chinese lights above the pumps and around the windows. A few years back it was torn down. This truly broke my heart. I write this poem so it's memory will live on. Plus I added a bit of fantasy.

Malvern's Chinese Gas Station

An oriental delight
In a small southern town
A very unique sight

Full of colorful lights
It brightened everything around
An oriental delight

Even if the moon wasn't bright
Business never slow down
A very unique sight

On one starry night
There appeared a Chinese clown
An oriental delight

He was joined by a knight
And they gulped sodas down
A very unique sight

The place removed fright
Guarded by a lazy hound
An oriental delight
A very unique sight
