Pro-Lifers Are Still Left Standing in the Rain

It appears that a pro-lifer will not replace Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court. George W. wants to work with the Democrats, so the nomination will go smoothly. This tells me that the President will appoint a pro-abortion judge. The Democratic Senators have given Bush a list of Hispanic judges they would approve. Both parties acts as if the nominee's ethic origin is the poltically correct thing to do.

First Lady Laura Bush thinks that O'Connor should be replaced by a woman. So I guess George W. needs to find a Hispanic Lady to replace Justice O'Conner. This way he pleases the Democrats, the Republicans and his wife. Which tells me that pro-lifers will once again be left standing in the rain.

The other day I was reading an article posted by Danny Sanders on the Arkansas News Bureau website. Sanders reported that the state has a surplus of a 108 millions dollars. Republican Governor Mike Huckabee wants to set aside the surpless for any unpredicted emergencies.

But the Replublican lawmakers want a special session in order to make tax cuts. Even some Democratic legislators feel that the people of Arkansas deserve a break. In my opinion the surplus does not belong to the state, and the money should be returned to the tax payers of Arkansas.

Since Huckabee plans to run for President in 2008, giving the money back to the people would be a smart thing to do. But thats the catch! The possibility of a politican doing something smart is almost a fairy tail. But you never know, we may get a snow storm in July.

So far "The Shamgar Report" has endorsed two candidates in 2006. Jim Holt for Lt. Governor, and Jim Lagrone for Secretary of State. To fill the vacancy of the Supreme Court, "The Shamgar Report" would like to see Roy Moore or John Ascroft replace Justice O'Conner. But I doubt this will happen

I believe in tax cuts, too, because I'm one of those economic conservatives who believes fervently that tax cuts jump-start the economy. I'm guessing in Arkansas, like elsewhere, that is needed now more than ever. Besides, as you say, whose money is it anyway? The Government's or the people's who paid it in taxes. I'm afraid too many people think it is the Government's money or at least they think the Government will spend it better. I've got a bridge I'd like to sell those people. lol. The Government will spend it in a way that helps a few special interest groups, and not the economy at large.

For me, whether or not the judge is pro-life isn't particularly important. What is important is whether or not the judge recognizes that the court has no business making decisions about abortion policy. Unfortunately, I don't know if the Democrats or the Republican moderates will let a true originalist judge be confirmed. We'll see what Bush does. Personally, I blame the public more than the politicians for the bad stuff that happens politically. We are governed by elected representatives. If we lack the courage to vote wisely, we are to blame.
