The Shamgar Report

The story of Shamgar is only found in one verse in the Bible, Judges 3:31. This passage records that he picked up an ox goad, (A pole with a sharp metal point) and killed 600 Philistines. According to the Jewish Historian Josephus, Shamgar died one year after his great feat.


During the days of Judges, Israel turned away from God many times. But there would be always be one man who would turn to God, and deliver Israel. Most likely this is the reason David was not afraid to face Goliath. I can picture him saying to himself, “Hey if God gave Shamgar the strength to kill 600 Philistines, surely I can kill just one.”

This story should be an inspiration to each and every one of us. Many people in our country feel that both the Democrats and Republicans have failed our country. Both parties cater to special interest, and receive millions of dollars from lobbyist. It is almost impossible for a citizen politician to defeat an incumbent with chest full of money. But if we had men and women like Shamgar, running for office, the course of History would be change.

What our nation really needs is true political reform. The only way that can happen is for God fearing people to run for public office. Just imagine a Congress full of people who place God first in their life, but are also committed not sell themselves out to the highest bidder.
If this were to happen in the United States would be restored to its original greatness.
